Jakarta, NAWACITAPOST.COM - Jakarta, 17 May 2022 - Following the first G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting held in Yogyakarta in March, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT) will hold the second EdWG G20 meeting which will be held virtually on the 18th and 19th of May from Bandung city, West Java.

Chair of the G20 EdWG, Iwan Syahril said, “In the second EdWG G20 meeting, we will strengthen our commitment to recover together and to recover stronger. The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology will also present various breakthroughs in the Emancipated Learning (Merdeka Belajar) program to inspire both developed and developing countries in transforming the education sector.”

At the second EdWG meeting, delegates will focus on two of the EdWG G20 priority agendas, namely Universal Quality Education and Digital Technologies in Education. In addition, the MoECRT will also lead the preparation of developing the first draft of the G20 EdWG report along with the draft of the Ministerial Declaration.

At this meeting, The Ministry will also initiate discussions to renew the global commitment in the education sector at the United Nations Transforming Education Summit (TES). TES is a forum to mobilize spirit, commitment, and political action to reverse the setbacks of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), reimagining education, and accelerating progress in education and the 2030 SDG Agenda.

The second meeting of the G20 EdWG will be attended virtually by delegates from G20 countries, special invitees, international organizations, along with other G20 working groups and engagement groups.

“We are optimistic that Indonesia and our partner countries can support each other to reach a common goal and reimagine the education system, providing benefits that can be equally felt by all,” continued Iwan.

Iwan also conveyed his gratitude and pride for the collaborative efforts shared between delegates at the first G20 EdWG meeting. “I truly appreciate the spirit of gotong royong, or supporting each other to reach a common goal, from all delegates at the previous G20 EdWG meeting. The spirit of gotong royong can be seen from how the delegates appreciate the values of gotong royong that we have raised, along with sharing initiatives and strategies relevant to the four priority agendas in education. The four priority agendas are Universal Quality Education, Digital Technologies in Education, Solidarity and Partnership, and The Future of Work Post COVID-19,” said Iwan.

In addition to discussing the four priority agendas, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology also invited delegates to experience Indonesian culture firsthand in Yogyakarta and Magelang, Central Java during the first EdWG meeting last March. Delegates had the opportunity to visit Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple, as well as experience various cultural activities.
